University of Minnesota Morris

College of Minnesota Morris (UMM) is an open aesthetic sciences school and an individual from the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges situated in Morris, Minnesota. As a component of the University of Minnesota framework, it was established in 1960 as an open, co-instructive, private human sciences school offering Bachelor of Arts degrees.

History
In spite of the fact that UMM formally opened its entryways in 1960, the historical backdrop of what turned into the present organization reaches to 1887. That year, the principal working of the Morris Industrial School for Indians, an American Indian all inclusive school, was built on the site and keep running by the Roman Catholic Sisters of Mercy under contract to the US government. Starting in 1898, the Office of Indian Affairs (today's Bureau of Indian Affairs) assumed control operations to present a more dynamic curriculum. The school shut in 1909, under a Congressionally approved program to lessen the quantity of live-in schools in inclination for finding schools on reservations, so that Indian families and groups would not be separated. The grounds was exchanged to the State of Minnesota under the assention that American Indians would dependably be conceded free of educational cost; the current UMM still tails this arrangement. In 1910, the University of Minnesota (at the time based just in the Twin Cities grounds), set up a live-in school on the grounds called the West Central School of Agriculture. In the 1950s, the University of Minnesota started eliminating its territorial rural school. The occupants of the Morris area persuaded the college to add to the grounds as a human sciences school. The current UMM opened in September 1960.

The Multi-Ethnic Resource Center, the most established expanding on grounds, goes back to 1899. It was already the Music Hall of the West Central School of Agriculture, and the young men's residence of the Morris Industrial School for Indians. Camden Hall, Spooner Hall, the Horse Barn, Welcome Center, Behmler Hall, Blakely Hall, Imholte Hall, Education Building, Pine Hall, and the Recycling Center all add to the Register. A large portion of these structures were composed by Clarence H. Johnston Sr. in the Craftsman and Prairie School style.
